John’s first experiences with yoga were around 1996.  By that time he had become what would best be described as a spiritual seeker.  Life events combined with an innate curiosity had taken him down a path of discovery that led far from his western (Christian) roots.  Through the intersection of the work of numerous others and his personal experiences John started to build a small set of truths (call them knowings) according to which he lived his life.  Through that seeking process John came to realize that the meditative and yogic traditions were very congruent with his own truths and he started practicing a bit at that time using just books and tapes as his guide.  Since that time John’s yoga practice has been his primary physical outlet and the point of integration for his physical and spiritual beings.  He has been fortunate to have encountered many great teachers, both on and off the mat, and as a result his physical and spiritual practices have continued to expand.  Today John’s asana practice is an eclectic form of vinyasa flow and is quite vigorous.  As a teacher he mixes physicality with soulfulness to create an experience that leaves students spiritually centered, as well as physically cleansed and strong.  John believes that the greatest teachers lie within, so if he were to have only one goal with his students it would to help them discover their own body as teacher.  “If we can move from ‘doing’ the pose, to feeling the pose, to discovering the pose, then perhaps in time we might also more fully discover ourselves.”
